A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

In today's first reading we see the early Church as it begins to
address the problems associated with people of different cultures and
traditions.

Such differences shouldn't surprise or worry us -- it is the natural
consequence of the expression of God's creative plenitude. Seeing how
the Church identified what practices and traditions were essential,
illuminates for us the sacredness of the words: One, Holy, Catholic
and Apostolic.

Only through the power of the Holy Spirit can differences be seen as
diversity and not sources of division. Only with grace and
cooperation with grace can we discern the truth embodied in the oral
and written tradition of the Church and its reliance on the
legitimate apostolic authority entrusted to her by Jesus.

As we await the coming Feast of Pentecost may we meditate on how the
Holy Spirit enlivened the hearts of the apostles and gave them the
gifts that would ensure that the Church would always remain One,
Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.

We thank you Lord for the gift of the Risen Jesus who promised us
life everlasting and the ever-present Gift of the Holy Spirit.
