A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

"The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst" (Zephaniah 3:l5).

How our dear Blessed Mother must have been bursting with joy! For the
Lord was growing now within her womb. She didn't fully understand all
that the angel said to her, but she knew she had to be with her aged
cousin Elizabeth, now six months pregnant with tiny John the Baptist.

Mary had a long journey and much time to ponder all that had happened
in her short life. When she greeted Elizabeth, baby John stirred in
Elisabeth's womb. Even the child knew he was in the presence of the
Savior. Elizabeth knew through the power of the Holy Spirit that she
was in the presence of God and His holy mother!

"Blessed is she who trusted that the Lord's words to her would be
fulfilled" (Luke l:45). Mary responds with the familiar words of the
Magnificat, her Fiat to her God with whom she has had a deep
relationship. She says, "God who is mighty has done great things for
me" (Luke l, 49).

Every time I hear these words, I think of all the great things God
has done for me and continues to do for me on a daily basis. He has
given me life and continues to sustain my life; He feeds me with His
body and blood; He has given me a family in whom I can find Jesus; He
has given me all of creation to use and enjoy and to ponder the
majesty and wonder of our God. He has given me the great gift of
faith to believe that I can trust Him and know that He is with me
always and will never leave me. Have you proclaimed the greatness of
our God today??

Oh Holy Spirit, make my heart like that of Mary. Make it docile and
receptive to God's will. Let it be a heart that is open, loving,
responsive and trusting. Amen!
