A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
What a powerful example of trust Abraham gives us in today's
readings. His is not an on-again-off-again faith, but an habitual
attitude of trust. At all times and in every circumstance, Abraham
says a quiet, steady "yes" to God's inspirations. When he foresees
trouble with his brother, Lot, he suggests they part -- but only
after offering Lot first choice. As it turned out, Lot had only
trouble with the inhabitants of Sodom, which lay in his territory,
while Abraham was rewarded with the land "flowing with milk and
honey", the land of Canaan.
If only we could live righteously as the Lord has commanded, we would
experience the Lord's designs for us. To live in respect of God and
neighbor brings untold blessings: this is the lesson of the day.
We praise you, Lord, for your Word!
