A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

"Follow me and let the dead bury the dead."

Whoa! Talk about a powerful statement. Jesus really lays it on the
line here. Those who do not follow Him are dead. That is the bottom
line. When He speaks to this young disciple He makes very clear His
meaning.

His statements previous to this are that the Son of Man has no place
to rest His head. Certainly this was true during his Earthly Mission
and to some extent remains true today. There is so much to do, so
much suffering to address, so much of humanity that remains "dead"
that Jesus must be carried relentlessly into the world. He cannot
rest nor can those who follow Him.

This is a powerful two part message. We are all called to follow
Jesus, because only in doing so will we have life. And we are called
to carry Him to others so that they too will experience life. Jesus
is Life -- outside of His love there is no life worthy of the name.
When we care for each other, we bring Jesus to them. What greater
gift can we bestow upon any person?
