A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
All of us owe a debt of gratitude to the Apostle Thomas whose feast
we celebrate today. In his human doubt, he revealed to us the process
by which faith is strengthened and convictions made firm as rock. The
first reading is a joyful outburst of a faith-vision -- the song of
exultation in our belonging to a vast citizenship, a loving
fraternity with the saints. How often we feel alone and isolated. The
feeling drains us of any energy of purpose, causes us to withdraw
into ourselves in pity and sadness. But when God's grace pulls us
back to reality, we are liberated into the joy of community and
fellowship with the Blessed. Like Thomas, we touch the side of Christ
and find in His wounds an identification with our own. We are
liberated, consoled, and strengthened. In our joy, we cry with
Thomas, "My Lord and My God!"
