A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Today's readings are very strange. First the account of Hagar and her
son Ishmael being sent away into the wilderness by Abraham; second,
the story about the demonic possession of the swine herd. What is it
we are to learn from these stories, spirit inspired thought they are?

It seems clear that the natural use of our faculties isn't sufficient
enough to render these stories meaningful. Only with the help of the
Holy Spirit might they speak wisdom to our hearts, instruction for
our lives. It will only be through prayer that we might learn the
ways of the Lord, to become familiar with His mysterious ways - so
unlike our own.

Let us then, not be upset when we fail to comprehend the meaning of
Holy Scripture, but instead turn with all humility to the Lord that
He might teach us what pleases Him to reveal to us and be at peace
with that which remains concealed.
