A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

"The reign of God is at hand!" (see: Matthew 10:7)

Jesus spoke these words to his disciples just as He speaks loud and
clear to us today.The message remains the same: to cure the sick;
raise the dead; heal the leprous, expel demons. Use your gift,
whatever it may be so that the Lord may bless you again and again by
replenishing it. For a gift is not a gift until you have given it
away.

Today as we read the story of Joseph meeting with his brothers, in
Egypt, the thought occurred to me about God's plan for our lives.
When Joseph was abandoned in a cistern by his jealous brothers and
later sold by them, I doubt he thought that everything would be fine
and turn out for the good. Little did he realize as he was taken away
that he would be the instrument to save his family from starvation.
He held no animosity toward them as he waited for the reunion with
his father Israel and younger brother whom he had never seen.

With hindsight we can see how the Lord's hand was on us and how it
worked things out for the good in our lives. As we recall the words
of the Psalmist, "Remember the marvels the Lord has done", let us be
assured of the faithfulness of our God. His promise is true to be
with us forever.

          Father,
               help us in times of doubt
               to know with faith that you are near;
               nearer than the clothes we wear;
               nearer than the air we breathe.
               Giver of life, be our strength. AMEN!
