A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

All of us are probably very familiar with the Ten Commandments as
outlined in the reading from Exodus. It is curious however, that they
are preceeded by the statement...."I am the Lord thy God, mighty,
jealous...." (Exodus 20:5) Our God is a jealous God...wanting us to
turn to Him always with love...and thus He outlines how we can do so
...in the Commandments.

In the Gospel message about the good seed falling on different types
of ground we are challenged....to keep ourselves ready, open and
prepared to receive the Word and the graces of God. We are to be the
"good ground" so that the harvest we reap can help others. Obeying
the Ten Commandments serves to prepare the "ground" for the good
seed. Let us remember however that "the land is brought to flower not
with human tears, but with those of the Son of God." (Divine Office
for 7/18/01).
