A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
I am reminded of an enlightened talk given by Fr. George Rutler,
author and of EWTN fame. He spoke of the Transfiguration; and if it
were possible, shed more light on it. As I recall, these are some of
the comments he shared:
We walk in a world bombarded by lights of varying sources and
intensity. We encounter people who are 'bright' and some even
'brilliant', while others seem rather 'dim-witted'.
Some people who are associated with the glare of spotlights and
limelights, can subtly leave us with the impression that they are
somehow 'brighter' than we. If we see it illumined on our
televisions, somehow it seems more true, more valid, more
enlightened.
Today we read about Jesus' Transfiguration, as witnessed by Peter,
James and John. Talk about BRILLIANT! Talk about TRUTH!
Jesus truly out-shines us all, for He, together with the Father and
Holy Spirit are the SOURCE of all Light and Truth. Moses and Elijah
also appeared brilliant, but only because they were bathed in His
Light -- an important point that Peter did not grasp right away; nor
would he, no doubt, until after the Pentecost.
-------------------
Wouldn't you have just loved to have seen the Transfiguration? Talk
about a 'Kodak-Moment' (no flash required)! That illumined image of
Our Lord in His Divinity must have been breathtaking, but a mere
foretaste of what awaits us when some day we too will see Him in His
Glory -- if we but follow His Light.
Jesus You Are the Light of the world! Alleluia!
