A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

The readings today stress faith and humility: faith, because in the
first, God is constantly inviting the Israelites to follow him in
faith through the Red Sea to the Jordan River; in the second, Jesus
invites Peter in faith to walk on the water of the Sea of Tiberias.
Every day of our lives, God is inviting us to abandon ourselves to
His mercy and strength in a journey through a sea of evil, temptation
-- a journey filled with challenges to holiness and justice. Every
day we must begin again to muster our faith through humble prayer to
the Lord. Listening to the Lord, we become focused and free. Only
Moses' humility, prompted by the memory of his sin of murder, kept
him courageous in his face-to-face encounters with God. Peter began
his walk on the water from faith, but he faltered through failure to
let Jesus bear him up on the waters. Jesus, keep me in faith and
humility this day, or I will sink!
