A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

"Decide today, whom you will serve.... as for me and my household,
we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15 (Douay-Rheims)

These words from today's first reading make us come to grips with
ourselves and our intentions. In plain words it tells us to get real,
come clean and get on with it. No more dancing around the periphery
of our faith. Make a choice, but remember when you do, the God you
accept or reject is no wimpy pushover. He is the God of all creation,
the God who performed great miracles and delivered us from our
slavery of sin. He is a jealous God who demands loyalty. This is the
God that the Old Testament people understood.

Today's gospel reading tells us more about God. Jesus who is the
image of the invisible God tells His disciples to let the little
children come to Him so that He can place His hands on them in
prayer. This is the God that has been revealed to us. A God who
invites the humility, smallness and innocence of children who seek
His company, His very touch.

Let us then be like small children pursuing the company of one who
loves us. Let us run to Him like small children who have a sixth
sense about who is good. Let us run to the Lord. Decide today
therefore who you will serve; as for me and my household, we will
serve the Lord!
