A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Once again, Jesus is teaching in parables about our basic belief of
attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion. Masked behind the
wedding feast are the Eucharist and the invitation to the Wedding
Banquet of His Son. A wedding invitation always excites the person
who receive it. The excitement reminds us of the times we have
attended other weddings and had such a good time talking to our
relatives and friends whom we may not have seen in a while.
Everything is lighthearted, no shadows or sorrows, we are there only
to enjoy our time at the banquet and to wish the bride and groom our
blessings.
Today's world has so many attractions to distract us from the
Sacrament of the Eucharist. God invited all his people to taste his
great love. How will we receive the invitation? Will we be too
preoccupied with the affairs of the world to accept this special
invitation. Will we respond with hearts overflowing with love and
thankfulness for the Lord's gift of His Body and Blood, His Holy
Eucharist to us?
Just as Jephthah was faithful in fulfilling his vow, so must we who
have been baptized in Christ, fulfill our vows!
Here I am Lord,
It is I Lord,
I have come to do your will! Amen!
