A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

By the grace of God, in the latter part of the 8th century BC, Isaiah
accurately foretold the coming of Jesus, the Messiah, the Christ, and
the events that would ensue:

     The spirit of the Lord is upon me,
        because the Lord hath anointed me:
     He hath sent me to preach to the meek,
     To heal the contrite of heart,
        and to preach a release to the captives,
        and deliverance to them that are shut up;
     to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
        and the day of vengeance of our God;
     to comfort all who mourn.

                              - Isaiah 61:1-3  (Douay-Rheims)

Indeed, in today's passage from St. Luke, we find that Jesus in his
early ministry in Galilee, arrived at the synagogue in Nazareth and
read this very same passage from Isaiah and commented saying, "Today,
this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." (Luke 4:21)

What powerful words, both then as well as right now!

Thank you Jesus for bringing me your glad tidings, for I am poor, for
I am captive to my own selfishness, I am blind to my own sins.

Thank you Heavenly Father, for offering me your grace and the many
gifts of your Holy Spirit. Release me Lord, a prisoner, from the grip
of the evil one.

Thank you dear God, for offering me and all of mankind this 'time of
favor'. May I learn more of your holy ways.
