A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

How valuable is the advice given in today's readings concerning the
humility, right judgment, and good reputation of all who would serve in
ministry in the Church!

A good chance to examine myself -- am I humble, ascribing all my talents and
successes to the Lord rather than to myself? Am I careful to be consistent
in mildness, prudence, charity, and care for the weak, the vulnerable, the
needy? Here is the picture of the ideal minister of the Word. Perhaps I fall
very short of this ideal. Let us not despair, or quit because of faults and
weaknesses. Christ will fill up what is wanting. He has promised it. All
that is needed is trust, openness, persevering prayer, and above all,
humility.

    Lord,
help me to meditate daily on your call to serve,
and let me leave to you
the polishing and perfecting of your servant.
        Amen.
