A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

In these sad and trying days following the tragedy in America, many
turn to spiritual things for wisdom and direction.

For believers in Christ, The Word of God, given to us in Holy
Scripture is the wellspring, the source, from where all correct
judgment, wisdom and proper action emanates.

In today's First Reading we hear Paul say why he's writing to
Timothy; even though he hopes to see him in person. Concerned that
should he be delayed, Paul wants to be certain that Timothy looses no
time in coming to full knowledge about what kind of conduct is
fitting for a member of God's household. There is urgency in Paul's
writing. The issue is so important that it can't wait - can't be
postponed to a more convenient and perhaps more illustrative meeting.

Isn't it so with us. Isn't the issue of how we must conduct ourselves
so critical that it begs our immediate attention and response?

May the events of our time and those of each of our "extraordinary"
ordinary lives spur us to be more urgent in the practice of reading
Holy Scripture and the simple and persistent habit of prayer. It is
by seeking God, speaking to Him, listening to Him - that we might
know and cooperate with Him for our own salvation and that of the
whole world.

We adore You O Christ and we praise You,
for by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world!
