A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Today's first reading from Ezra is astonishing - a pagan king
(Darius) is providing all the funds for the recently-freed Jews to
rebuild the temple that had been destroyed 70 years before. How
filled with joy they were! Much later, Jesus would prophecy that he
would in three days rebuild his crucified body.

As we attempt to deal with the stunning events of the past two weeks
in America, we need to listen to God urging us to rebuild our damaged
nation. May the knowledge that we are vulnerable to terrorist attacks
awaken us to the danger we face from Satan's attacks on our morals,
our values, our courageous discipline to build ourselves into the
Temple of Christ. Especially in the Eucharist do we enter into the
Temple of Christ's Body and Blood. In our Holy Communion this day or
tomorrow, let us beg Jesus for the grace to rebuild the faith and
fiber of our beloved country, and to do it through strengthening our
spiritual armament. God bless our resolve!
