A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
"Do not be anxious how or wherewith you shall defend yourselves, or
what you shall say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you what you ought
to say." (see: Luke 12:11-12)
When I was very young, this passage caused me to wonder how that
could happen. Later, while teaching catechism to 5th graders I
learned that the Holy Spirit speaks through us when words and human
knowledge fail. In retrospect, I've recognized that faith and trust
in God makes it possible for us to become the hands and the voice of
Christ.
Those who seek after the Word of God and allow faith to flow into
their hearts, will grow mightily in that faith. Faith will enlighten
us to recognize God's call to whatever task He wishes of us in our
lifelong journey of faith.
We learn from today's scripture that it's important for us to
jealously guard our faith, never to allow ourselves to deny or
diminish what was given to us by God. Instead, we're called to
nurture it, and to make it grow through the generous giving of our
time, talent, substance and opportunity. We will do this by meeting
the challenge of every moment - the sacrament of the moment - to
respond to others with the love that Jesus taught us by His word, His
example and His death.
Amen, Amen!
