A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

Much is in the news these days about fear and terror. Mankind,
unfortunately, is always at war someplace in the world. Naturally we
become fearful if such turmoils impact our own lives and those of
family and friends.

Scripture today reminds us however that we should not be afraid of
those who kill the body, but rather "fear him who after he has killed
has power to cast into hell." (Luke 12:4,5) With that in mind we
change our battle plans, as the enemy is always around us. Satan
never rests. We see evidence in all aspects of our lives.

Our first response to this might be: "Of course I would be afraid of
those who would kill my body". That is only natural....and
instinctive.

What scripture is speaking about is our priorities. We go to such
lengths and expense for our bodies and we should as good stewards.
More important however is to protect, guard, nourish and exercise our
spiritual selves. We have God within us since we are adopted sons and
daughters through baptism. We have our faith as a strong shield
against the enemies. Our bullets are love, faithfulness and
perseverance in our relationship with Christ. Love makes all things
possible!
