Title: Meditation: Sunday, November 18, 2001

UN ALERT: Austin Ruse, president of the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute reports that UN Agencies are obsessed with abortion and contraception, to the almost
total exclusion of basic medical care. He reports today on charges made by
Dr. Robert Walley, founder of MaterCare International. Read Austin's report on our website on Friday's page at http://homepage.mac.com/ojoachim/Education5.html and for more information, go to: http://www.matercare.org

A Reflection on today's Scripture:

Our readings on this final Sunday of Ordinary Time prepare us for
Advent, a period of joyful anticipation as we await the Christ Child,
the blessed union of God with man. He who humbled Himself to enter the
human estate did so that we sinners, through faith and loving obedience
to Him, the divine Word, could be reconciled with the Father and
elevated to participate in His holiness, become one in mind and heart
with our God.

St. Paul instructs the Colossians that Christ, the King of creation,
made man and holds him and all things in being, together in Himself. But
though we belong to Him, sin disturbed this unity. Still, God's love is
so great that He cleanses us of that sin in His Son's own blood and will
work within us through His Spirit to make us holy as He is holy. What He
needs is our consent to His discipline, the willingness to consistently
deny ourelves of all behavior and attitudes contrary to His love and
truth. This may sound difficult and uncompromising, but it is through
grace accepted that we are enabled to do this.

The Gospel reveals another dimension of God's love and illustrates the
first important step toward salvation; it is a humility that recognizes
one's sinfulness and the desire for reconciliation with our heavenly
Father and one another. God will never reject a repentant sinner,
regardless of the magnitude of his sin, even if he approaches Him in the
last moments of life. Christ's arms on the cross are ever opened to
receive us.

Almighty and merciful God, unite all Your children in the
truth and love Your Son, our Lord and King, revealed.
May we may live in justice and peace, fit to abide in Your
       heavenly Kingdom. Amen.
