A Reflection on today's Scripture:

Happy New Year!

No, today isn't January 1st; but it is the first day of the new Liturgical
Year of the Church. This is a time for us to start over with a new slate, to
deepen our understanding and love of the Good News so that we might enter
into a more profound relationship with our God. It's a time for us to listen
much more carefully to the many teachings of Scripture. It is a time to
prepare our souls for a more complete reception of the gifts of the Holy
Spirit. It is a time to study God's desire to enrich us, a time to learn
where we have failed and what we might do to reverse our backsliding. This
is a time for us to prepare our souls for God's presence to dwell within.
This is such a joyful prospect, that I can only imagine how much committed
Christians desire to be worthy of God's presence. So, let us prepare
ourselves for the coming of the Lord; not only the symbolic event of
Nativity, but also the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who desires to vivify
and sanctify receptive souls. Amen, Amen!
