The Catholic Calendar for Friday, January 11, 2002
Friday After Epiphany

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
1 John 5:5-13
Psalm 147:12-15,19-20
Luke 5:12-16

A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

Believing in the Son of God.

"Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean."  (Luke 5:12).

The words of the leper in today's gospel tell us of a man of faith
who believed in the power of Jesus. The touch of Jesus and his words
"be cured" left the man completely healed of his leprosy.

We are all lepers in one way or another and all of us need the
healing and cleansing touch of Jesus. What is it in our life that
needs the help of Jesus to be healed and made whole? Is it something
physical, emotional or spiritual? Does it have anything to do with a
relationship that needs forgiveness to mend it? Whatever the reason,
Jesus waits for us to come and be healed! The final healing for each
of us comes when Jesus calls us home to receive the reward he has
promised -- eternal life -- to live with Him forever!

Join with the Psalmist today in praising our God for all His good
gifts to us.  Amen!
