Title: Meditation: Wednesday, January 16, 2002

The Catholic Calendar for Wednesday, January 16, 2002
The First Week in Ordinary Time

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    1 Samuel 3:1-10,19-20
    Psalm 40:2-5,7-10
    Mark 1:29-39

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Today's readings are especially rich in truth for our reflections.
When the boy, Samuel, runs to the priest, Eli, the first time,
thinking the voice he heard was that of Eli, the old man sent him
back to bed. And again, the second time, Eli himself did not
recognize the voice of God. But the third time, Eli had the humility
to know that God was speaking to a mere boy, and not to himself. He
directed him to say, "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening".

How often we have said those words, and then failed to be quiet, or
have gone on talking about our agenda, our wants, and our plans. Find
a quiet place, today, and really let the Lord tell you of His love
for you, His plans for your future. How much closer we will live in
His will for us, How much more peace and joy there will be in our
lives.
