Title: Meditation: Friday, January 18, 2002

The Catholic Calendar for Friday, January 18, 2002
    First Week in Ordinary Time

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    1 Samuel 8:4-7
    Psalm 89:16-19
    Mark 2:1-12

A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

The paralytic man and his companions did not know if Jesus would heal
him. They had heard of his power and his love and so sought him out.
If you seek me you will find me, Jesus said. Upon finding Jesus, the
man was healed of his paralysis and had his sins forgiven. Those of
us who walk in faith know the love that Jesus has for each and
everyone of us. We try to follow in his footsteps. We also know,
because of our faith that we can count on him whenever we ask Him to
heal us.

Do we inadvertently block God's power in our life? Are we lacking
in our faith? Maybe today is the day for us to take inventory, to
find out how much "stock" we have and count our blessings. If we come
up shorthanded, we know what to do: we must ask the Lord to increase our
faith, to take away our doubts and fears and to fill our hearts with
His Love, Grace and Peace.

         Heavenly Father,
In our weakness we need Your help!
Please allow us to be true and faithful
with the same hope as the Paralytic.
              Thank You.
              Amen!
