A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Wed., Feb. 6th, 2002 Wk 4 Ord:
One of the ironies of life is the fact that, the closer one lives to
a person, the less they esteem their talents. It is said that an
expert is anyone who travels at least 30 miles to lecture or perform.
Why are we so reluctant to appreciate the good and even outstanding
qualities of our immediate neighbors? Somehow, ordinary living isn't
quite compatible with fame.
Today, we ask ourselves, "What kind of boxes have I placed my
acquaintances into?" "Why?"
My fast judgment is often a rash judgment. When we flippantly
volunteer the remark, "Oh, I know him...I know her", we probably
don't know them at all.
May the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ
enlighten the eyes of our heart
that we might see how great is the hope
to which we are called. Amen (from today's Mass; see Eph 1:17-18)
