A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

Practicing our Catholic faith in today's modern world gives us a job
to do everyday of our life. Somehow, like the disciples in today's
Gospel story, we're always finding an excuse not to do what we really
ought to be doing. Here it is two days into Lent and we might not
have made up our minds yet about what special acts we're going to do
these forty days. In addition to the usual fasting and self-denial,
are we not called to some form of evangelization, of seeking social
justice and giving to charity? Ought we not examine the unconverted
areas of our mind and heart? Let us give serious reflection to these
possibilities proclaimed by the prophet Isaiah.

    O Heavenly Father,
You sent your Son Jesus that we might have eternal life.
By your divine grace, may we seek not for ourselves,
but may we give of ourselves for the salvation of souls.
         Amen!
