Title: Meditation: Saturday, March 16, 2002
The Catholic Calendar for Saturday, March 16, 2002
Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Jeremiah 11:18-20
Psalm 7:2-3,9-12
John 7:40-53
A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
We see in the gospel of today how the people were attempting to entrap
Christ and apprehend Him, but they were reminded by the temple ministers of
His spiritual eloquence..."Never has man spoken as this man." (John 7:46)
This might be a time to consider which 'camp' we have been in with the
people around us. Do we look for ways to entrap people around us from time
to time, or do we look for the good in others and try to learn from that
good and even perhaps announce it to others. Because of our human nature we
have our weaknesses, our frailties. One usually does not have to look far to
find faults, but what a better and more rewarding use of time to look for
strength and beauty.
We are reminded as we approach Good Friday how Christ, even from His death
bed of the cross, looked over at the 'good thief' with love. With the
confession of the thief, Christ rewarded him with the promise of heaven.
Please Lord, help us to see others with your loving and forgiving eyes.
