Title: Meditation: Friday, March 22, 2002
The Catholic Calendar for Friday, March 22, 2002
Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Jeremiah 20:10-13
Psalm 18:2-7
John 10:31-42
A Reflection on today's Holy Scripture . . .
Today as I read the Gospel, I put myself in the scene as the Jews
reached for rocks to stone Jesus. He simply asked "For which of these
works do you stone me?" (Jn 10:32). Our beloved Lord, sinless and pure
of heart, accused of blasphemy! My heart was filled with sadness as I
thought about Jesus, who knew his time was fast approaching. He was soon
to lay down His life for me and all humanity after the pain of torture
was inflicted on His holy body.
Lent is almost over, with only one week left until we relive in our
hearts what our Lord has done for us. Our promise of small sacrifices
may have fallen by the wayside, but there is still time to seek
reconciliation, and to forgive all those we've offended. Our contrition
will help to allow the Triduum to become more meaningful.
Holy Spirit,
our guide and helper, fall afresh on us.
Empower us to live our lives in the spirit of God.
Amen!
