A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
In last Sunday's gospel, we heard the story of Lazarus and how Jesus
raised him from the dead. Throughout this Gospel, the question of
belief is often raised. Jesus performed the extraordinary act of
raising Lazarus in order that the Jews may come to believe. Jesus
questioned both Mary's and Martha's belief in Him and what He had
come to do. With their steadfast belief in Him, he performed the
miracle of raising their brother from the dead.
In today's responsorial psalm, the response is: 'The Lord will guard
us, as a shepherd guards his flock'. Now, let us ask ourselves, how
firmly we believe this. How firmly do we believe in God's love for
each and everyone of us. Our Christian Faith is one of belief. During
mass we recite the Apostle's Creed which is our charter of belief in
the Father and the life of Jesus. How firmly do we believe in our own
creed?
Everyday, we are called to bear witness to our belief in Jesus. The
more we believe in the saving power of Jesus, the more room we give
Jesus to perform miracles in our lives and in the lives of those
around us. Jesus desires our belief, so that he can direct us to
salvation. Let us be steadfast in our faith in Him, our Good
Shepherd.
O Lord,
send your Holy Spirit to strengthen our belief in You
and inspire us to serve You and no other.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
