Title: Meditation: Wednesday, April 3, 2002

The Catholic Calendar for Wednesday, April 3, 2002
    Octave of Easter

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    Acts 3:1-10
    Psalm 105:1-4,6-9
    Luke 24:13-35

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Jesus is risen! And that has released Him into His world in a new and
unexpected way, freed of the shackles of time and space. At this very
moment, He is walking with us, eager to explain the Scriptures to us,
to guide us, to lift our spirits into hope.

Peter quickly found out this truth by daring to call on the name of
Jesus to heal the cripple at the Temple. And power came rushing to
heal, in the same way it had done in the earthly presence of the
Christ. There are thousands upon thousands of similar occurrences
since that miracle. It is always Jesus who heals, Jesus to whom the
thanksgiving and the glory belong. We need to remember that always
when we pray for the sick, the hurting ones, who themselves may be
weak or hesitant to pray for themselves.

The Emmaus story is the great model for our belief that Jesus walks
with us on our journey. It is our model for walking with others -- to
first listen, then to prayerfully connect the situation with a word
of wisdom, truth, and hope from he Sacred Word of God. Possibly to
exhort, to encourage -- then to break bread with them, by sharing our
own, by sitting at table with them; or, best of all, by sharing with
them the Body and Blood of Jesus through the Eucharist.
