The Catholic Calendar for Saturday, April 20, 2002 Third Week of Easter Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word: Acts 9:31-42 Psalm 116:12-17 John 6:60-69 A Reflection on Today's Scripture: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You hast words of everlasting life." (John 6:69) You might be familiar with Dr. Phil, the life-strategy guru who gained huge popularity through the Oprah Winfrey show and his book 'Life Strategies'. Dr. Phil's book is an interesting reflection of the human personality. One of his assertions is that "People do what works." St. Paul once cried out in anguish asking: "Why is it I do that which I hate?" The answer for St. Paul and also for us is that when we do something that is incongruous with our good desires or intentions, it's because the illicit behaviour rewards us on some level. Most of us go through life falling into this pit of sin and misery; it is only the presence of the Lord and His Grace which allows us to overcome our weakness and create synergy between our good intentions and behaviour. When we fail, when we're attracted to the short term pleasures of sin, let us remember that it is only our Lord and Master who offers eternal life. With the choice of eternal life or the transient benefits of this world and its values separated from Jesus, how would you choose? While the answer might be easy, living out that choice is the hard part! Today, let us call on the Lord to strengthen us on life's journey that we may become a reflection of Jesus in this hard world, and become worthy to share eternal life with Him and the saints in Heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen - Cliodhna Doyle ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) YOU CAN HELP to evangelize the Word of God: Please recommend our website to your friends and Catholic webmasters.
