Title: Meditation: Tuesday, April 30, 2002

The Catholic Calendar for Tuesday, April 30, 2002
    The Fifth Week of Easter
    St. Pius V

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    Acts 14:19-28
    Psalm 145:10-13,21
    John 14:27-31

A reflection on today's Scripture . . . .

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you.
(John 14:27)

The things of this world are passing and frail. They are thin and weak. They
give joy for a moment and then are part of our regular routine. The peace
and joy of Jesus Christ are not like that. They are eternal, substantial,
and real. They are powerful realities. We cannot begin to understand this
until we accept Jesus at His word here. When we do so, we begin to
understand the eternal nature of the gift.

Jesus is forever. He was, and is, and will be. He is the Great "I Am"
revealed to Moses on the mountaintop. He is savior, He is God, and He is the
source of our peace. Let us stop running scared and turn to Him, heart and
soul, body and mind, with all of our being and embrace Him, as He is already
holding you and whispering as to a frightened child: Peace, Peace, Peace....
