Title: Meditation: Tuesday, May 28, 2002

The Catholic Calendar for Tuesday, May 28, 2002
The Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    1 Peter 1:10-16
    Psalm 98:1-4
    Mark 10:28-31

A reflection on today's Scripture . . . .

"Hey, what about me?"

Amazing! We're all cut from the same cloth! Here's Peter and the other
disciples saying, "Look, we've given up a lot, and it seems to us we
should get something out of this." Can you imagine the utter gall, the
incredible pride in a statement like that. You walk up to God and say,
"You owe me, I've done some stuff for you."

God has already repaid us. He has given us life and has supported us
through every moment of the our lives up until now. God has richly
rewarded us with the graces of His sacraments. He has rewarded us with
family, friends, and love. And Jesus tells us that everything we give up
for Him will be replaced a hundred-fold. Those who have come to know God
know that this is the truth.

We are all friends of God. We are all part of His glorious family. It is
not a life without strife. It is not a life free from care. But it is a
life in which the cares we have are fulfilled by God. Loving God is the
most important reward we can possibly get--it is more fulfilling and it
completes us in ways that we can only start to know here on Earth.
