Title: Meditation: Thursday, June 6, 2002

The Catholic Calendar for Thursday, June 6, 2002
The Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
    St. Norbert

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    2 Timothy 2:8-15
    Psalm 25:4-5,8-10,14
    Mark 12:28-34

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Good and upright is the Lord, thus He shows sinners the way. (Psalm 25:8)

These words tell us something we may not always remember; namely, that
God is not laying a trap for sinners, is not loving just the good and
just, but loving everyone and wanting all to find Him.

Holiness is not a function of the amount of grace that God pours out on
us, but rather our response to grace and allowing it some space and
permission to operate in us. So often it appears that God is at fault -
granting some more than others. If this were true it might well explain
why some are holy and others are not. Convenient a theory as it is, it
misses completely the essence of God who is Love. He does not
discriminate, choosing some rather than others, but wants all to be
saved and enjoy the splendors of heaven.

Let us then beg the Lord for the grace to respond to His outstretched
hand, to the pouring down on us of His sacred blood, and the call to be
His intimate and lasting friend.
