The Catholic Calendar for Friday, July 5, 2002

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    Amos 8:4-6,9-12
    Psalm 119:2,10,20,30,40,131
    Matthew 9:9-13

A Reflection on today's Holy Scripture . . .

Just imagine for a moment what it would be like if Jesus came to save
only the righteous ones! I'm afraid 99.9% of us would be left behind,
because all of us fall into the category of sinner. Our Divine Healer
came to free us from our captivity to sin. He came to show us how to
love by laying down our lives for each other. He showed the depth of His
love for us by being nailed to a cross for our sins.

The righteous ones who only knew how to love came that we might have
life and have it in the fullest measure. Our dear Lord calls us today as
He did Matthew two thousand years ago to come and follow Him. He knows
our every need even before we know it and wants to fill those needs in
His most loving way.

Without the Lord in our lives we don't stand a chance to survive in this
world of ours. The One who said, "My peace I leave with you, My peace I
give to you" is calling today so that we might be gifted with the Wisdom
to know how close He is to us -- closer than the clothes we wear!

              Heavenly Father,
do not allow us to stray from you.
Renew our minds and our hearts!
                   Amen!
