A Reflection on today's Holy Scripture . . .

While praying one morning, it came to me that there are many things that
I take for granted and somehow forget to thank God for. For instance; as
I stand up after a good night's sleep to begin a new day; as I open my
eyes to the rising sun coming through my window; as I prepare myself for
the new day; for the inner workings of my body, etc, etc. Yes, we're
truly wonderfully made by the loving hands of our Creator.

In much the same way, the people of Jesus' town took him for granted.
They knew he was the son of the carpenter Joseph and his wife Mary, and
that Jesus was obedient to them. They also knew of his humble beginning
and they began to question the wisdom coming forth from Jesus as he
taught the people at the Synagogue. "Where did he get such wisdom and
miraculous powers?" they asked each other. (Matthew 13:54) They made
their judgment on superficial things; i.e., where He lived, the
carpenter's son, rather than believing in the things He said and did.
They surely lacked faith.

Today, let us thank God for all the abundance of gifts He has given to
us and ask Him for that special grace to see beyond the surface of
things and recognize His creating hand in all and everything.

Lord, in your great love, answer me! (Psalm 69:14)
