Well, we had quite an exciting time tonight. Tonka and Zena came in from
the outside and Tonka lays down next to me. I reach down to pat him and I
notice bloody foot/toe prints all over the floor. I checked Tonka out while
Kevin checked Zena over and I found that Tonka had broken his right back
outside toenail in half. It is sticking out at a 90 degree angle so I call
the vet and he says to put flour on the toenail to stop the bleeding
temporarily and to bring Tonka in so that he could remove the nail (I told
him I didn't want to remove it myself). So I "flour" Tonka's toe and load
him in the Durango and off we go to the vet.

We get to vet and get out of the Durango. I walk over to the door and I
notice that his toe is bleeding again. The rest of the nail had fallen off
in the car and started to bleed again. The vet tech, Shana, comes outside
with the styptic stuff on a q-tip like thing and we try to stop the bleeding
outside of the vet's office. It was actually funny to see because I'm only
4'11" and Shana isn't much bigger and here we are working on the huge dog
that outweighs us both. Needless to say, we drew a little crowd. Tonka was
so good but the bleeding wouldn't stop because there was not much of that
styptic stuff on the "q-tip". Shana goes back in and get a jar of the stuff
and dunks his toe in it and it stops bleeding. Thank God!

Anyway, I know have a major clean-up on my hands. I have to steam clean my
carpets (both in my house and my truck) and mop the kitchen floor and tiles
in front of the front and back doors. I guess my night is pretty much laid
out for me, huh?

Anyway, I just thought I'd share.
