I had this problem a number of years ago after getting viral pneumonia in
college. It seemed like after the pneumonia cleared up, I got a cold/sinus
infection/bronchitis (in that order) at least once a month.
I found one aggravating circumstance. At the time, living at home still, my
mom and her girlfriend had 2 cats. Didn't think much of it, but when I
graduated from college and got my own place (with no cats...) I stopped
getting the infections so often - maybe seasonally then - spring, summer and
fall. I did still get horrendous headaches due to sinusitis. Tried
Claritin - that does help, but I, too, don't like to take 'scrips all the
time.
I've o.d.'d the vitamin C for years - at least 2000-3000 mg per day year
round. That seems to have helped. When it gets bad, I take a product
called "AllerClear" from the health food store - from a company called
Enzymatic Therapy. (website is www.enzy.com and phone # is 1-800-783-2286).
This helps, but it does tend to give me diarrhea after a few days. It's
amazing though - I can BREATHE - through my NOSE! That's something that
doesn't happen all that often!
