Moreover, this vaccine was a 3 y.o. rabbies and on thephone, they were
arguing
that there only was a 1y.o. vaccine. So I have requested a copy of the
vaccine
label. they gave it to me reluctantly. they were pretty much *surprised* to
see that the vaccine was a 3 y.o.!!!! >>
I tried a new vet when I moved...he was recommended by my old wonderful vet,
so I was feeling very safe. I went in and explained to him that I wanted to
skip a few of the "traditional" vaccines, and that I would do rabies in about
4 months (b/c rabies was originally done 4 months after the first shots). I
also said that I wanted to do the 3 year rabies shot when I came back for it.
This punky new vet had the GALL to give every shot to Dewey with me standing
right there (stupid stupid me for not asking...I thought I had explained well
enough). He then proceeded to tell me after giving all the shots that Dewey
would be fine, and that he did do the rabies b/c you can't trust people to
come back in for future shots with their dogs, and that there was no such
thing as a 3 year rabies shot. ????!!!! I threw a fit! Dewey went lame 3
days later, was vomiting with the runs for a full week beginning the next
day, and thinking back, this is when his HUGE seperation anxiety business
forced me to put an email up on danebytes asking for help. I asked to see
the label on the rabies shot and they refused. Proceeded to ask me what a
kid could "learn" from the label anyways.... !! Also said that there was no
such thing as vaccinosis...that it was pure myth made up by people who do not
wish to spend $$ on their dogs/cats. (This of course made me feel very
foolish).
Needless to say I was THRILLED when Dewey peed on the vet at that point. I
called my regular vet and he will not recommend this man anymore. I even did
a "test call" to verify this... made up a name and asked about vets in my new
area.... was told to AVOID this man. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Just a "getting it off my chest" post. and perhaps a reminder to stop and
ask what everything is BEFORE your vet continues with it. I am not sure this
particular vet would have been truthful with me, but I feel guilty for not
having tried.
