Renee Claude,

>From "Grow your Pups With bones":
page 50
"Without adequate levels of zinc and a good quality protein, the vitamin
"A" cannot be released from the liver to perform it's many functions."
page 62
"Zinc is a nutrient which ensures that your male dog is fertile. ...
The zinc will not only help with sex drive, it also ensures there are
plenty of healthy sperm."
page 63
" Even if that zinc deficient diet had all the necessary EFA's, the high
quality protein and the missing vitamins added to it, the lack of zinc
would still result in a complete and irreversible lack of sperm
production in any dog raised on it" ( his bold, not mine )

>From "The Nature of Animal Healing"
page 242
"Generally, the mineral zinc and the herb saw palmetto are well known to
aid in prostrate problems, and are contained in the afore mentioned
products"

I have a house full of male dogs and one spayed female. To ensure their
ability to breed and to stay healthy I give 1- 50 mg tablet every other
day or so. Dr. B recommends that a 20 mg tablet is good for a small dog,
so I figure that 50mgs won't hurt. Most of the foods that contain a high
zinc content are things my dogs don't like. So by supplementing the zinc
I can be assured of them getting enough.
