Dogs have a digestive system that is very short and designed to digest
things quickly. Raw foods do this...digest very quickly. Kibble...cooked
meats and grains....do not digest quickly...they sit in the gut and ferment.
This is the main reason (I believe) that dogs have such foul smelling gas
when on a kibble diet. Chili was on a premium, high quality kibble for the
first few weeks I had her...but I couldn't stand to be around her when she
had gas! I switched her to BARF and the gas is gone. With Danes and other
bloat-prone dogs, I would think feeding them BARF which is what they are
designed by nature to eat...would *really* reduce the risk of bloat. I'm
not saying eliminate the risk...just very much lower the chances of it
happening.
