I just checked, and current darcs-stable fails on hashed repos
with various error messages, like:

  $ darcs what
  darcs failed:  Unable to "darcs whatsnew" here.
  You need to be in a repository directory to run this command.

  $ darcs changes
  darcs failed:  Not a repository

  $ darcs get .
  Invalid repository:  /home/tommy/kod/darcs/foo
  darcs: /home/tommy/kod/darcs/foo/_darcs/inventory: openBinaryFile: does not 
exist (No such file or directory)


A short "not supported by this version" will probably make life
a lot less confusing for users.
