Can't reproduce the problem here, can you try running darcs with strace?
% EDITOR=/bin/cat strace -o log -f ../darcs.release/darcs send

Creating patch to "http://abridgegame.org/repos/darcs-unstable";...

I can't get why, but I can't reproduce that problem today. The test pass
without problem !
