Wouldn't it then make sense to use ~/.darcs/tmp? You have full control over
that directory when it comes to permissions and I don't see a reason why it's
any worse than current directory -- if you are out of space on $HOME, you are
already in trouble and most of the time you use darcs from there anyway.
