Running pdflatex from emacs (on Mac) gives this figures.log:

The two files given above are one of your source files
and an auxiliary file I need to read to find out what your
btex..etex blocks mean. If you don't know why I had trouble,
try running it manually through MPto -tex, TeX, and DVItoMP.

The resulting pdf looks fine except for the figures which are missing.
Running "mpost figures" manually fixes the problem. Is that a required
manual step or may it be run from the main tex file during pdflatex
execution?
I've also tried using your Makefile but rubber from darwinports seems
to not be working. I get this output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~/work/src/patch_theory $ make
