I replied to the wrong one.  I'm afraid I don't really understand the
issue.

What would be the reasonable way for darcs to behave?  Are we looking
for extra options/switches as Ben suggests, or do we want to change
darcs's (default) behaviour?

As far as I can tell, the only thing to do is to explicitly record the
directory creation in a separate patch, which I suppose I can understand
as 'fighting' darcs, but what would be the alternatives?

Could somebody sketch them out concretely?
