IMO that's the worst possible outcome.  If you want to be non-Fascist
about it, it's reasonable to say that

    the preferred form is "Darcs'"

so that people who feel really strongly about it have an out, but I'd
much rather see "Darcs'" everywhere than a "democratic" mixture.
After all, in my professional writing I spell "humor" with 2 U's when
submitting to a British-edited journal.

P.S.  That's "either is acceptable". ;-)
