It's the same core issue:

 $ cabal update
 Warning: No remote package servers have been specified. Usually you would have
 one specified in the config file.

I think it could be considered a bug in "cabal-install" that it didn't set me
up with some servers by default. Maybe it had to do with my non-root install.
