Unless I'm mistaken, one of Petr's ideas here was to for the buildmaster be controlled within the Darcs team. Right now buildbot.darcs.net is being graciously hosted by Zooko on the allmydata.org server. While we're really grateful for this service (fwiw Zooko was also the one to bang the drums and take the action necessary to make this happen in the first place), I think he will agree that having to go through him to make changes to buildmaster config (even if it's just by darcs pull) is a bit of a hassle for everybody.
