Subject: [DarknDirty] Re: Southern Storm - run the otter, mountainbike the
garden route

the otter would certainly not be for free, nor any of the other areas where
this race goes through. you're gonna have to eat & sleep, that's also not going
to be for free, not in the garden route, anyway.

hassles of getting someone that willing to drive the backup-vehicle while you
play, scouting & booking areas of where to play all cost money & time.

Seriously, why pay R 5600 and rush the garden route, when you can do it for
free over a longer period if you have leave.
Only leaving in a weeks time.

The dates have been set:

Southern Storm: 19 - 24 September 2009 - DUATHLON - entries open on 1st of April

The Otter: 20 September 2009 - AFRICAN TRAIL RUN - entries open on 1st of May

What is the Southern Storm?
The Southern Storm is a full-service Duathlon set in the spectacular Garden
Route within the soon-to-be-declared Garden Route National Park. The Southern
Storm will be based on an off-road style duathlon of mountain biking and trail
running with short sections of kloofing. The event will start at Tsitsikamma
and over a period of 5 days, weave its course through one of South Africa's
iconic hiking trails- the Otter Trail, along spectacular coastlines, through
indigenous forests, into deep ravines, over majestic mountains and across open
savannas, finishing in the Wilderness National Park. Participants will
overnight at stunningly beautiful campsites en route.

Each day will dawn with new challenges of strenuous single track riding,
concentration-commanding trail runs, breath-t

aking gorge traverses, magnificent river crossings and demanding uphill
scrambles.

The inaugural Southern Storm has limited entries so make sure you don't miss
out!
What are the stages of the Southern Storm?
* Day 0 - 19 Sept: Registration and Prologue
* Day 1 - 20 Sept: Otter Run - African Trail Run, Storms River to Natures Valley
* Day 2 - 21 Sept: Natures Valley to Plettenberg Bay
* Day 3 - 22 Sept: Plettenberg Bay to Knysna
* Day 4 - 23 Sept: Knysna to Sedgefield
* Day 5 - 24 Sept: Sedgefield to Wilderness

What is the format of the event?
The Southern Storm is a 5-day Duathlon. The event will include a combination of
MTB and Running Legs as participants will traverse the soon to be proclaimed
Garden Route National Park from East to West.
Where will participants stay?
Participants will have the choice of either tented or luxury accommodation.
Every evening, participants choosing camping accommodation will be hosted in
tented Race Villages set in wilderness areas. At each camp site we will have
sleeping tents, showers and toilets, medical facilities, HQ and meal tents. A
unique, warm, safe atmosphere will be fostered at each, making the venue a home
away from home. For more information on a Luxury option or a Full Package
(includes airport transfers, accommodation and meals) - please email
[email protected]
What are the Entry Requirements?
Due to the nature of this event we recommend a high level of fitness and
endurance. The first day of the Southern Storm consists of completing the full
distance of the 5-day Otter Trail. The technical terrain and remoteness of this
iconic trail requires us to enforce very strict cut-off times.
Athletes enter as individuals and have to be 18 years or older.
What are the Entry fees and what is included?
The entry fee for 2009 per athlete is R 5 600.00.

Included in this fee:
* Shared tented accommodation during the race (6 nights). If you have someone
you can share with, you may indicate this on the on the entry form.
Alternatively the organizers will pair athletes appropriately.
* Breakfast and dinner will be provided on each Race day, starting with dinner
on registration day (saturday 19) and finishing with prize giving dinner on
last race day (thursday 24).
