The Southern Storm is a full-service Duathlon set in the spectacular Garden Route within the soon-to-be-declared Garden Route National Park. What are the stages of the Southern Storm? * Day 0 - 19 Sept: Registration and Prologue * Day 1 - 20 Sept: Otter Run - African Trail Run, Storms River to Natures Valley * Day 2 - 21 Sept: Natures Valley to Plettenberg Bay * Day 3 - 22 Sept: Plettenberg Bay to Knysna * Day 4 - 23 Sept: Knysna to Sedgefield * Day 5 - 24 Sept: Sedgefield to Wilderness What is the format of the event? The Southern Storm is a 5-day Duathlon. The event will include a combination of MTB and Running Legs as participants will traverse the soon to be proclaimed Garden Route National Park from East to West. Where will participants stay? Participants will have the choice of either tented or luxury accommodation. Every evening, participants choosing camping accommodation will be hosted in tented Race Villages set in wilderness areas. At each camp site we will have sleeping tents, showers and toilets, medical facilities, HQ and meal tents. A unique, warm, safe atmosphere will be fostered at each, making the venue a home away from home. Due to the nature of this event we recommend a high level of fitness and endurance. The first day of the Southern Storm consists of completing the full distance of the 5-day Otter Trail. The technical terrain and remoteness of this iconic trail requires us to enforce very strict cut-off times. Athletes enter as individuals and have to be 18 years or older. What are the Entry fees and what is included? The entry fee for 2009 per athlete is R 5 600.00. Included in this fee: * Shared tented accommodation during the race (6 nights). If you have someone you can share with, you may indicate this on the on the entry form. Alternatively the organizers will pair athletes appropriately. * Breakfast and dinner will be provided on each Race day, starting with dinner on registration day (saturday 19) and finishing with prize giving dinner on last race day (thursday 24). * Tables of Munchies along the route. * Transport of your Race bag from start to the finish each day. * 5 day Otter Trail Fee * Featherbed Ferry crossing * all permits and access to Nature reserves and Wilderness areas to be traversed during the Race (SAN Park, Cape Nature, MTO, Private Landowners). * Participant's T-shirt * Finisher's Medal * CD with Race Images Excluded * Transport to and from the starting venue of the Southern Storm.
