apparently the parks boards reckon 200 runners on one day = 1 weeks
worth of hiking... so they close the trail for a whole week and the
organisers have to cover the costs...

I am doing otter hike in june thinkit was about R560pp

Also, it sounds like you won't have to get a backup vehicle story, you
will be riding and hiking your whole way to george...
some days ride-hike-ride
